Abercarn RFCABERCARN R.F.C.

10 Apr 10 - Abertillery BG

LOST 24 - 35

Abercarn welcomed table toppers Abertillery Blaenau Gwent to the Welfare Ground and were taught a rugby lesson, eventually losing by 35 points to 24.

Although they were the first on the scoreboard with a penalty kick by full back Jason Evans, the first half clearly belonged to the visitors. The Abercarn side were guilty of standing off and not pressurising their counterparts enabling them to run the ball from all parts of the ground. The Tillery side were very clinical behind, kept the ball in hand and showed good support play and by half time they had scored three fine tries and led by 24 points to 3.

The pep talk at half time revitalised Abercarn and they started to play with confidence and took the game to the visitors. They scored three tries of their own from centre Nicky Lloyd, captain Gareth Peebles and replacement prop Ryan Anderson with Jason Evans adding the three conversions.

At one stage of the game, Abercarn got to within seven points; however, the visitors upped their game and added a further try, drop goal and penalty to deservedly win by 35 points to 24. Man of the match went to prop Ryan Hodges.

Abercarn play Pontadawe in the SWALEC Bowl semi-final next Saturday. If the players want to win and progress to the final at the Millennium Stadium they will have to work hard with the coaches to improve their teamwork and play for the whole of the eighty minutes of the game.
