Abercarn RFCABERCARN R.F.C.

03 Oct 09 - Talywain

LOST 3 - 6

Abercarn travelled to Talywain and fell to their first defeat of the season by the smallest of margins.

As expected, this was a close fought encounter by the two teams at the top of Division Four East. For the first half hour Talywain launched wave after wave against the Abercarn line and only stout defending held out the attackers.

Eventually Talywain were awarded a penalty when an Abercarn forward went over the top at a ruck and at half time they led by three points to nil.

Both teams were well matched and the forwards gave it their all with Abercarn impressing in the scrum and Talywain shading the ruck area. A smartly taken drop goal by Matthew Johnson brought the visitors level and both sides continued to probe defences, with limited chances being spurned through dropped passes or wrong options being taken.

As the game drew to an end and with a draw looking to be a fair reflection of the game, Talywain were awarded a penalty and the successful kick gave them the win to leapfrog Abercarn to the top of the table.

Back at the Abercarn clubhouse, man of the match award went to hooker Aaron Davies. Abercarn’s Development squad travelled to Rhymney Rhinos and came away with a well deserved win by 26 points to 12.
