Abercarn welcomed Oakdale to a rearranged league encounter and eventually ran out comfortable winners by 30 points to 6.
Despite falling behind to a penalty within a minute of the start of the game Abercarn’s outside half Josh Steer soon regained the lead with two successful penalties. Centre Nicky Lloyd was having a good game with his strong running and following a break by Matt Harper, and support by hooker Aaron Davies he crossed over the line for an excellent try. Steer added the conversion plus another penalty and at half time Abercarn led by 16 points to 3.
The second half started in the same manner as the first with the home side giving away a penalty within a minute of the whistle. Man of the match Steer scored a try under the posts and then benefited from a good run by full back Jason Evans who linked with centre Jack Davies and he crossed for his second try of the game.
Back at the clubhouse head coach Steve Llewellyn praised Josh Steer’s 25 point haul but correctly acknowledged that this result was a great team effort.
The Abercarn Devils also had an excellent result beating Abertysswg by 44 points to 12.
Abercarn’s next encounter will be at home against Machen on 3 March and the coaches and players will be working hard to keep up the momentum.
