24 Sep 11 - Taffs Well
WON 27 - 6
Abercarn travelled to Taffs Well and came away with a comfortable win by 27 points to six. In an at times niggly encounter, both sides strived to put together flowing moves but they often broke down due to sloppy play or poor decision making.
Centre Jack Davies looked to be scoring a try but was pulled down just short of the line and the home side managed to scramble the ball to safety. Abercarn were guilty of getting into good positions but failing to take their chances and all either side managed in the first half was a penalty a piece.
The second half started brighter for the visitors who slowly began to dominate play and centre Jack Davies delivered the perfect pass for full back Josh Steer to enter the line at pace and score an excellent try. Abercarn pulled further ahead when good interpassing along the three quarters enabled winger Joe Cochrane to cross the line unopposed.
With full time approaching, Abercarn launched a training ground move from a lineout and number eight Gareth Peebles stormed his way to the line to score his first try of the season.
Abercarn may have prospered better if they had kicked more often for position rather than try and run the ball from defensive positions. Back at the clubhouse, second row Leon Jeffard was awarded man of the match.
Next week Abercarn entertain Chepstow at the Welfare Ground.
