Abercarn RFCABERCARN R.F.C.

23 Apr 11 - Oakdale

DRAW 19 - 19

It finished honours even in the game between Abercarn and Oakdale with both sides grinding out a 19 points to 19 draw.

Unfortunately the rugby did not match the bright and sunny weather as each side spilled the ball with scoring opportunities begging. Abercarn were first on the board when full back Jason Evans kicked a simple penalty only for Oakdale to add three points of their own minutes later.

Abercarn’s pack were in dominant form at scrums and had the visitor’s front row popping up almost every time. Evans restored Abercarn’s lead with a second penalty kick but Oakdale hit back with a well worked converted try and moved further ahead with another penalty kick.

The best move of the match came when Abercarn’s full back entered the line at speed, kicked ahead and with a kind bounce was able to gather the ball and scored under the posts.

The second half was a lacklustre affair with both sides only able to add two further penalties, the last one by Abercarn being the final kick of the game.

Abercarn’s man of the match was Jason Evans for scoring all his side’s points and this Saturday the team travel to New Tredegar for their final game of the season.
