10 Feb 10 - Crumlin Kick Off 7pm
WON 16 - 3
Abercarn travelled to Crumlin for a midweek match and came away as winners by 16 points to 3 and in doing so completed their first double of the season.
Both sides were short of players in what turned out to be a very competitive match in which neither side dominated. The main difference between the sides was Abercarn’s midfield defence and Scott Llewellyn and Gavin Stokes were able to stop many of the home side’s attacks.
The visitors back row of Mathew Harper, Jason Noakes and ever improving Ben James also put in fine performances. Full back Jason Evans added to his tally of tries and Ben James also crossed for his second try of the season. Outside half Mathew Johnson scored the remainder of Abercarn’s points by kicking a penalty and a drop goal.
This was an entertaining game played on an extremely cold Wednesday evening. The disappointingly small crowd were able to enjoy a good game of rugby in which both sides did their best.
Abercarn’s next game is on Saturday, away to Blaenavon in the next round of the SWALEC Bowl.
